Travel Inn Demolition

In response to a question posed by a local resident via NMCA, Amy Ryberg Doyle has provided the following update on the Travel Inn site on Wade Hampton. “The Travel Inn site on Wade Hampton is being demolished. The City was seeking funds to help the bank destroy and remove the remains. This is great news as the property has remained a public nuisance (safety with the exposed pool and homeless living inside) as well as a terrible eyesore for the neighborhood. Pinnacle Bank owns the property.

Of course, the question now is “what next?” The property is zoned C-3 and will need to be designed according to our non-residential design guidelines as well as our sign ordinance and landscape ordinance (currently being reviewed by Planning Commission) We are trying to encourage good development, retail and restaurant mix or a motel (national brand). The site may be too small for a grocery store…. (just some ideas that had been floating around!) No serious buyers yet.”

We appreciate Amy keeping us updated and will let you know more information on these and other properties as we learn them.
