2023 Holiday Newsletter

A Message from NMCA President Steve Mills

As the 2nd year of my 2-year term as president of the North Main Community Association (NMCA) ends, I want to thank the board members for their continued service to our neighborhood in 2023 and to welcome the new board members for 2024. One of the main goals for my term was to find new members in our association to serve on future boards so that the good work of NMCA can continue. That goal has been met with our board for 2024 filled with enthusiastic and dedicated members!

The highlight of the past 2 years were the spring socials held at Larkin’s Sawmill and D’Allesandro’s Pizza. We are very fortunate to have businesses next to our neighborhood that are willing to host our socials. We also have many people that help sponsor the events along with the annual dues.

The NMCA has participated with the City of Greenville and other neighborhood associations in many projects that affect our neighborhood and surrounding area. Some highlights are:

Pedestrian safety such as road marking and sidewalk enhancements
New development code
Tree giveaways (>120 trees)
Playground equipment enhancements in Rotary Park and Croftstone Park
Rotary Park stream bank restoration

I wish to especially thank John DeWorken (City Council District 1) and Shannon Lavrin (city manager) for their cooperative spirit which has led to very good working relationships with the City of Greenville! They are both available to meet with NMCA to help find resources to maintain and improve our community.

In closing, it has been a pleasure to serve NMCA, and I hope that our current members will continue to be a part of our wonderful community!

Crime Awareness

This is the time of year when we are all busy and many will be out of town.  It’s a good idea to
let friends and neighbors know so they can keep an eye on your house.  If you have security
systems or security cameras, be sure to arm them.  Keep valuable items out of site.  Set timers
for lights to make it look like someone is home.  Either stop your mail and paper or have a
neighbor pick them up each day.  And remember that at night, even though you cannot see out,
if your blinds or curtains are open, those outside, including potential thieves, can see very
clearly into your house.
And with Christmas not far away, remember NOT to put those big screen TV or other boxes out
on the street after you open them…that’s just advertising to criminals.  Tear them up and place
them face down on the curb or take them to the closest recycling site.

Free Drive Thru Vaccine Clinis for Cats and Dogs

Greenville County Animal Care will hold a free drive-thru vaccine clinic on Dec 7 from 12 to
4. This event will be a DRIVE-THRU Vaccine Clinic, meaning that & your pet(s) can remain
in your vehicles and Animal Care staff will only remove them when it’s time to vaccinate
them! APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED for this event to avoid having long lines with lots
of people & pets waiting! Pet owners may request an appointment online through this

Christmas Tree & Lights Disposal

For the convenience of city residents, trees can be placed at the curb for collection on
regularly scheduled pick-up days or taken to one of four convenient locations. All trees
must be free of debris such as ornaments, tinsel, ribbons and lights.
 Drop-off locations include:
 Holmes Park (Twin Lake Road & Holmes Drive)
 Timmons Park (Oxford Street & Blackburn Street)
 Gower Park (Laurel Creek Lane & Laurens Road)
 West Greenville Community Center (8 Rochester Street)
 The locations listed are open until late January. Curbside pick-up within the city limits will
continue for as long as needed.
 All holiday boxes, tissue paper and wrapping paper (except foil-lined) can be recycled at
the curb and at the following locations:
 Stone Avenue Recycling Center (800 East Stone Avenue)
 North Greenville Recycling Center (514 Rutherford Road)
