Information on Repairs to McDaniel Ave. Bridge

Information regarding the McDaniel Avenue bridge:

A recent inspection revealed extensive corrosion to the existing steel beams on the McDaniel Avenue Bridge over the Reedy River in Cleveland Park. SCDOT received an emergency procurement for repairs. They hope to finalize bids this month, award a contract next month and begin construction soon thereafter.

For now, SCDOT has lowered the weight limit on the bridge to 3 tons. Vehicles larger than an SUV should take an alternate route.

It is estimated that the repairs will take three months. McDaniel Avenue and a portion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail will be closed, and detours provided.

SCDOT is inspecting the bridge regularly and hopes to keep it open to traffic until the project starts.
