Update on Fire Victims and Donation Needs

This is such an amazing community! I’ve personally never lived anywhere like it. We’ve had so many donations from within and even outside the community (even one package via UPS from Kentucky) thanks to the many shares on Facebook and spreading the word via email. So far we’ve carried over 4 SUV loads of clothes, toys, etc. to the victims. We’ve raised well over $2000 in cash, checks and gift cards and it’s still coming in.

I talked to the victims earlier today and all are in good shape for clothing and toys. (The kids probably have more toys than they’ve ever had…but if you’re a kid, is it really possible to have too many toys?). If you still want to help, we suggest a monetary donation. The Northgate Soda Shop is still accepting cash, checks or gift cards, but NOT clothing or furniture. At the suggestion of the victims, please take clothing to a charity of your choice so others who are in need may benefit.

We have heard from folks who want to donate furniture, but unfortunately none of the victims are in a permanent location. If you able to hang onto things, please do so and we’ll let you know as soon as they find a place and we determine what they need. If you can’t keep it, please email pgilreath@aol.com and we’ll see what we can do to find a place to store it.

All the victims asked me to express their heartfelt thanks to the community for their generosity and thoughtfulness. It makes a very rough time a bit easier knowing that so many people care!

Please share or pass this on to others so they will know the situation. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
Thank you!
