Thumbs Up: NMCA Organizes Candidate Forum This Wednesday

Thumbs Up to the North Main Community Association for organizing a candidate forum for the five candidates in two races for Greenville City Council. The forum will be Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Stone Academy, and it is sponsored by The Greenville News. Greenville is a dynamic city and its downtown is a jewel. The city’s success came about because of methodical and visionary planning backed by strong public and private leadership. It’s important that the city continue down this path. The forum will feature the two Republicans running for the District 1 seat that encompasses North Main Street and Bob Jones University. Three Republicans are running in the primary for the at-large seat that is one of two where the council member is elected by the entire city. Incumbent Susan Reynolds will face Gil Crouse and George Fletcher in the race for the at-large seat, and incumbent Amy Ryberg Doyle will face Bob Beam in District 1. People can talk to the candidates beginning at 6 p.m., and the forum starts at 7 p.m. It will be streamed live at GreenvilleOnline.com and will be posted to the website for later viewing. Greenville News staff writer Eric Connor, who covers the city and downtown, will moderate the forum. (Greenville Online, July 17)
