Rite Aid Transforms Into Sav-a-Lot

Neighbors:

Several people heard from the cashier at Rite Aid that they would be adding grocery aisles. After some more phone calls, it was confirmed that they are going to become part grocery/part drugs as Rite Aid is downsizing nation wide eliminating several thousand stores.

They will remodel the store internally adding more grocery aisles including meat and produce. Grocery stores are allowed in c-2 zoning, so there would be no zoning special request.

Their name will change to Sav-a-Lot and a new sign would need to be compliant with the sign ordinance.  As you may know, Council is currently discussing an updated sign ordinance. To see more information on this please see agenda item from last Monday’s meeting:  http://www.greenvillesc.gov/CouncilAgendas/CouncilMinutes.aspx

I know discount stores are not what people envision for Stone Avenue.   It makes it difficult to “sell” the corner of North Main and Stone for downtown condos and a mixed used development with a discount store across the street.

We have made a lot of positive steps with street design and working with DOT since the Stone Avenue Master Plan charrette.   We have another meeting next week with DOT regarding the street design and I will send an update when available.

Email me or call me with questions.
