The following was received from Amy Doyle via email. We are reprinting it for those who may not have seen it.
“A multi-family developer, Mr. Robert Johnston, intends to purchase and redevelop the property of the site of the former Travel Inn on Wade Hampton Blvd.
A quick summary…..The proposal includes three 3-story buildings with 109+ market rate 1 and 2BR apartments. The plan includes balconies on many of the apartments facing south and west. There will be surface parking lot. There will be amenities such as workout gym, park and internal walking track. There will be no pool. The rents will be likely $850-950 (estimated!)
The property does not require a rezoning. Multi-family development is allowed in this zoning. The developer will be required to adhere to the city’s multi-family guidelines.
The demand for apartments for young professionals and retirees — and everyone in between!– is very high. This development will be an alternative to the higher prices of downtown apartments. The developer has stated that the easy access of Wade Hampton Blvd, the active bus stop, the great view of downtown and the proximity to downtown make this location very attractive.
The developer and architect will present at a neighborhood meeting, Wednesday, January 29 at the Stone lake pool clubhouse. Address is 707 Chick Springs Road. You may come at 6:30 and view the plans. The meeting will begin at 7pm. Any questions, you can email me or planning staff at the city.”
