The Metropolitan Arts Council announces a new exhibit beginning July 27, 2018 and running through September 7, at the gallery at 16 Augusta Street. The exhibit presents the craftsmanship of over 30 woodworking artists from the Greenville Woodworkers Guild. The exhibit will be open daily from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and will be closed on weekends.
The Guild is considered the largest in the USA with over 700 members. Organized by 5 area professional woodworkers in 1981, the Guild serves as an educational hub for all levels of woodworkers from the upstate of SC, western NC and NE GA. In addition to the educational opportunities provided to adults and youths, the Guild serves many charities and nonprofits throughout our area, including the Meyer Center, Greenville Hospital System, various high schools and other qualifying entities. Each year the Guild constructs and donates over 600 wooden toys to underprivileged children as well as donates member constructed urns for veterans’ ashes and boxes for the Beads of Courage program for children undergoing treatment for cancer.
Attending the exhibit provides an opportunity to see many of these items as well as furniture and other decorative items made from wood.
