With the upcoming holidays, and remembering the rash of thefts last year in our neighborhood, you may benefit from insights from Greenville Police Officers directly involved in securing our streets and homes, and sharing their insights on home and package security, prevention of home and vehicle break-ins, and who to call if your experience or suspect a crime. You will hear from experts on security, crime investigation specialist (and forensics)—those that go to these crime scenes.
Not surprising, the GPD officers are often the first point of contact for mediating issues of homelessness—and identifying the best entity to assist an individual or family. Susan McClarty, Director, GHA, chairs a committee of experts from GPD and many of the private and public organizations that offer assistance.
In several states, according to the FBI, December is the peak month for burglaries as folks leave homes unattended during the holidays. In many places, the week following Christmas has the heaviest burglary caseload. Daylight offers no deterrent: 65% of these crimes occurred between 6 AM and 6 PM in 2011. Police solve only about 13% of reported burglaries and do not recover all the goods even when they do nab the criminals. So the idea is to prevent the crime in the first place.
