NMCA is hosting a FREE Fire-safety Educational Event tomorrow, Monday, May 20 at 6:30 pm at the Sears Recreational Center. The Greenville City Fire Department (GCFD) will provide information and training on a subset of the many safety programs and services it provides citizens upon request.
NMCA requested GFD to provide an overview on in-home fire safety, the free in-home smoke alarm installation program for city residents, a fire truck for the children to enjoy, and most significantly, a training class on hands-only CPR. Attendees will be offered brief “hands on” practice on manikins following the briefing.
“According to the American Heart Association, 90% of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. Studies show that most Americans (70%) feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency. As a result, the Greenville City Fire Department (GCFD) is working to raise awareness about the benefit of hands-only CPR and empowering citizens to help prevent unnecessary deaths and possibly save the life of a co-worker, spouse, parent or friend.
Hands-only CPR, which is used on teenagers and adults, has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public and can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival.”
Note: the CPR training is for those 18 years and older.
