Crime Alert in North Main

We recently had yet another break-in in the neighborhood…this time just off North Main on N. Park.   In this case, a door was kicked in and the house was ransacked…some jewelry and prescription medicines were taken.   The suspect was apparently on foot as other larger valuable items were not taken.   This happened in broad daylight, around 11 am.   Most neighbors were apparently at work and if someone did hear noise, they likely thought it was construction noise.

Again, to repeat some tips from law enforcement:
  • Don’t leave valuables out in the open outdoors or in plain sight indoors.
  • Make sure your house is locked at all times. This includes doors and windows.
  • Although home burglaries may seem random in occurrence, they actually involve a selection process. The burglar’s selection process is simple – choose an unoccupied home with the easiest access, the greatest amount of cover and with the best escape routes.
  • If you are elderly and use a handicapped sign hanging from your rearview mirror, consider taking it down if you leave your car in your driveway at home and only using it when out shopping, etc.   A burglar may see this as an indication of an easy target…someone who is elderly, perhaps slower to respond, and who may have prescription medicines available.
Ask neighbors to report any suspicious persons or activities around your home to your law enforcement agency.   Good neighbors make safe neighborhoods .
