October 27 – East Hillcrest Halloween Parade. 10 am. Starts at the intersection of E. Hillcrest and Parkwood. Come on out and join in the parade or just cheer on the kids!!
October 27 – Boo on Buist. Buist Ave. block party. 1-6pm. Intersection of Buist and Robinson. Street will be blocked off from 12:30 – 6:30pm. Live music, carved pumpkin contest, bicycle obstacle course, games & more. Bring snacks to share and a crock of your best chili for the Chili Cook-off! For info call Ross at 525-8802.
October 31 – NMCA is again partnering with Earle Street for their Halloween parade and trick-or-treating. The festivities begin at 6PM…gather at the West end of Earle Street.
November 3 – Fall Festival at Northside United Methodist Church, 435 Summit Drive. 3-6pm. Bounce House, Face Painting, Cotton Candy, Bake Sale, Games & Prizes, Crafts, Music and more. 4:30 pm – Rain gutter Regatta presented by Cub Scout Pack 324. 5:00 pm Free Hot Dog Plates served by Boy Scout Troop 324.
In addition, many churches will also sponsor events on Halloween night. Most have signs posted. If you have an event you’d like to share, please post it on the NMCA Facebook page
The following information was sent out by the city in reference to safety on Halloween night on Earle Street. It applies to all of us and is a good reminder…please read!
“The holiday tradition on Earle Street is great old-fashioned neighborhood fun, with hundreds of children trick-or-treating. Last year, we had a record number of trick or treaters. Although we all love the atmosphere and fun, we need to look out for the children’s safety. We have been speaking with city officials about what we can do to make our street safer on Oct. 31st. Solving this problem is more complicated than one might think, and closing Earle Street to vehicle traffic is not feasible. So we are pursuing other ways to make the street safer. Please help make the street safe for ghouls and goblins on Halloween night by taking these steps:
- Please keep your cars on your driveways from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween (at least as best you can – some have small driveways). Please ask your guests to not park on West or East Earle Street during this time. We have spoken with Police Chief Wilfong and she strongly advised us to keep cars from parking on the street on Halloween night. Children’s darting between parked cars creates the greatest Halloween safety hazard.
- From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween, please avoid driving on West or East Street. We need to discourage Earle Street car traffic on Halloween as much as possible.
- Last year, there were so many children that for much of the night families were walking in the street as they went from house to house. This creates a hazard – please stay on the sidewalks.
- Please tell your children – particularly those old enough to be let out of your sight while trick-or-treating – about the hazards of crossing a street on Halloween. Also, please have them wear something bright and reflective. And remember that face masks significantly reduce a child’s field of vision – try face paint.
- Please shut off your porch lights by 8 p.m. The kids should be finished by then anyway.
- There will be an increased police presence on Earle Street between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween. Chief Wilfong asked that we remind all adults that officers will be actively enforcing Greenville’s open container laws in the public right of way. So no drinking while trick or treating, please.
