The community yard sale has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 25, from 8am to 2 pm. The sale will be in the back parking lot of the Northgate Soda Shop. Everyone is welcome to set up tables and sell their items. Yard sale signs will be posted on the street. Tell your friends and neighbors to come on down…..you never know what kind of treasures you will find! Originally they were also going to accept donations of gently used clothing, etc., for storm victims; however, according to Karen Traxler, the Red Cross Emergency Services Specialist for the Upstate, their National office asked them “to advise the community not to send anything else to Joplin, Missouri as they were overwhelmed with donations”. While monetary donations are still appreciated, they recommended donating clothing and other items to local churches or other charities.
You may also bring any donations for a local charity, Safe Harbor, which provides assistance and homes to abused women. The sale from these items, at the Hope Chest, helps the women when they leave the shelter. Safe Harbor helps these women find jobs and provides them help to start a new life.
Also, Cosmos for Critters will have a table set up to sell items to benefit the participating rescues. They are grateful for any donations for the multitude of four legged critters they have in foster care….they accept cash, food, toys, leashes, collars, etc. Melanie Vergas and her workers will be available to answer your questions about the program.
