Thanks to everyone who has already responded to the 2020 Census. The North Main community has a response rate of 75%, so we’re doing a good job, but time is running out. The U.S. Census Bureau recently announced that it was moving the deadline from October 31 to September 30. Census workers are expected to begin visiting households that haven’t responded this week. To avoid having a census worker visit your home, fill out your census form online at www.my2020census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020. It only takes about 10 minutes and your responses are confidential.
Census results are used to determine the distribution of $675 billion in federal funds to states each year. Every 100 people in our state who aren’t counted = more than $2.6M in federal resources that will be sent to other states instead of SC over the course of the decade. We can’t afford to let that happen. SC’s population is estimated to have grown by 12% since the 2010 Census, so if we don’t make sure everyone is counted, precious resources will be stretched thin. The results also matter because they’re used to ensure fair representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. Thanks to the 2010 Census, SC gained an additional seat in Congress.
We only get one chance every 10 years to get it right, so please help make sure everyone in our neighborhood is counted. Also, while North Main’s response rate is 75%, the overall response rate for the city of Greenville is only 54%, so please help spread the word that completing the census is safe, easy and important.
